How it Started
Our community allotment was set up in March 2022 to provide a sociable space for people to learn together about growing fruit, flowers, herbs and vegetables and to enjoy the mental and physical health benefits of being in the green outdoors.
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to welcome people from the community of East Tuddenham and surrounding villages from all age groups and backgrounds, to join us and:
-
Grow in confidence in gardening and growing by working shoulder-to-shoulder with volunteers who have a wealth of gardening experience to share.
-
Build new social connections, developing friendships to alleviate isolation and loneliness.
-
Improve physical and mental health through working in the green outdoors.
-
Join in with national and local gardening projects which support biodiversity, wildlife, water conservation and soil improvement.
Mindful Towns & Villages
Representatives from the trustees of the East Tuddenham Community Allotment, alongside councillors from our Parish Council and Village Hall committee, have engaged with the Breckland Mindful Towns & Villages programme. We have undertaken a range of training including MIND’s Mental Health First Aid, Understanding Bereavement and Preparing for End of Life. We are now part of a network of 'Wellbeing Champions’. Our trained volunteers can, with empathy, direct people towards appropriate support from local and national charities.
